Wigan stay in the big time

Match points: Wigan secured another season in the Premier League as Aston Villa's European hopes took a turn for the worse at Villa Park.

Antonio Valencia scored both his side's goals in the second half, leaving Steve Bruce happier than a cat in a Whiskers factory.

It was a frustrating afternoon for Martin O'Neill's side who, despite dominating much of the match, couldn't beat Chris Kirkland, who was in fine form. The result puts Everton in pole position in the race for fifth place.

Dazzler of the day: Antonio Valencia

Wigan haven't been the most free-scoring of teams this season, so Valencia's two goals couldn't have come at a better time. The Latics can now relax, they're still in the top flight.
