Match points: Although West Ham had little to play for in this match, Aston Villa were still in with a sniff of Uefa Cup football prior to kick off and were fired up.
But it was the Hammers that took the lead when Villa old boy Nolberto Solano curled a free-kick passed Scott Carson. It being the day for people playing against their old clubs to perform, Nigel Reo-Coker had a hand in both goals from Ashley Young and Gareth Barry as the game swung back in Villa's favour.
But Dean Ashton ensured that it finished all square with a crisp shot. With Everton beating Newcastle, however, it meant that Villa's result was immaterial as they had to settle for sixth.
