Toffees in Europe via Newcastle
Match points: Everton bought their ticket to Europe by beating Newcastle and pipping Aston Villa to fifth place.
The Toffees needed a point to be sure of a Uefa Cup place and when Yakubu headed them into a first half lead Goodison Park started to relax, but Michael Owen put the cat back amongst the pigeons by tucking a penalty under Tim Howard.
It wasn't until the 70th minute that Everton fans' nerves settled again, as high scoring defender Joleon Lescott volleyed them back in front. Yakubu Ayegbeni then made absolutely sure with a penalty in the 82nd minute. It was the first Premier League penalty the Toffees have won all season.
